Over the years, Waggener Edstrom (WE) has worked with several clients during SXSW Interactive and seen the huge potential of interaction and connection through Twitter. Conversations that started at the popular conference can fuel intelligent ideas well into the future through the power of social media.

This is especially exciting as some of the brightest minds in education prepare to collaborate and discuss ways to catalyze change in the classroom at next week’s SXSWedu 2013 in Austin. WE has crunched the numbers* and identified the top 12 Twitter handles to follow to get critical insights from SXSWedu and engage in the conversation happening at and around the event.

WE is grateful to work with innovators and thought leaders across all industries — and the education space is no exception. One of our nonprofit clients, inBloom, even made it onto the list not one, but two times.

inBloom is just one example of the leaders coming together at SXSWedu to continue initiating innovation in education tech. Here is our complete list of the top 12 Twitter handles to follow for insights and conversations from SXSWedu:

  1. @SXSWedu: Official tweets from SXSWEdu.
  2. @CompassLearning: A leading provider of K-12 digital curriculum and assessments.
  3. @johnmaeda: John Maeda, president of the Rhode Island School of Design.
  4. @flourishingkids: Joan Young, elementary school teacher, academic coach and published author.
  5. @frankcatalano: Frank Catalano, Geekwire columnist, ed-tech consultant and analyst.
  6. @lego_education: Working with teachers and classrooms to engage and inspire young learners.
  7. @edmodo: Official handle of Edmodo, a social learning platform for teachers, students, and parents.
  8. @inBloomedu: Official handle of inBloom, a nonprofit organization working to make personalized learning a reality for every student.
  9. @jackiegerstein: Jackie Gerstein, educator and technology enthusiast.
  10. @mtechman: Melissa Techman, K-5 School librarian and former public librarian.
  11. @weareteachers: An online community offering inspiration and resources for teachers.
  12. @inBloomDev: Updates and insights for the inBloom developer community.

*Calculated by influence ranking, topical relevance, number of tweets using SXSWedu keywords, and number of retweets.

  • Cami @WeAreTeachers

We are so honored to be included in this list — thank you! And we hope to see you at SXSWedu, this year you can find us at two events. Our #EduBrawl panel (Tuesday @9am) with 4 teachers, you might know two in the twitterverse: @EdTechSandyK and @WesFryer. And then we are also hosting the Innovative Teacher meet up on Wednesday at 5:30pm. Plus we will be attending as many events as possible and tweeting all about them so that if you can’t attend you can still be in the loop.

edtech evangelist among all of our content and programs on WeAreTeachers, two examples are sponsored grants and programs. If an educator participates in one of these programs and chooses to opt-in to receive information from the sponsor then we supply the sponsor with that educator’s information. I hope that clears up your comment if you have any other questions please feel free to reach out to me directly at ceastman@weareteachers.com.
