When is the last time you saw a hashtag in your Facebook news feed before this week? I only saw them when someone auto posted from Twitter or Instagram, and the hashtag looked as lonely and #useless as the one in this sentence.
On Wednesday, Facebook announced that things are about to change for the much-used (and arguably overused) social networking feature, as Facebook makes hashtags clickable. The feature is not yet available to everybody —and to those who are seeing hashtags now, the functionality may not be working. In theory, however, once the wrinkles are ironed out, brands will be able to put Facebook hashtags to use in a number of ways. Here are our predictions about six implications for brands:
