Last week, some New York team-members took a trip to Chelsea to help put some backpacks together with the Volunteers of America. Michael Bigelow, Julie Levinthal, Zac Rivera, Shelby Berliner, Jessica Jeng, Lizzie Werber, Sara Householder, and I entered the large space on Tuesday where we were due to fill some backpacks, and were pleasantly surprised to find the room completely full with both volunteers and supplies to work with.
Volunteers were expected to go through a checklist to ensure every backpack had sufficient supplies a child would need for the school year. As challenging as this was, there were no complaints and everyone packed with gusto.”It was great to take a break from the office and spend some time giving back with my coworkers, especially in support of such a great cause” – Lizzie Werber
The experience was certainly a fulfilling one for all the New York team members involved. I’d like to think that WE gave rays of hope away for each backpack we filled and for the supplies we donated. In addition to the time it took to fill the backpacks, WE-NY donated $500 to Volunteers of America so they can continue their crusade to keeping children prepared for the school year.
If you are looking to give back to your community, I would highly recommend working with the Volunteers of America to help provide families the right materials to send their children to school fully equipped each year.
