LIFESTYLE AND CONNECTED CAR TEAMS POWER UPCOMING XC90 LAUNCH AND VOLVO MODEL REFRESH
NEW YORK — Jan. 15, 2014 — Volvo Cars of North America LLC (Volvo Cars), one of the world’s most innovative automobile companies, has selected integrated communications agency Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (WE) as agency of record in the United States to support the brand’s market resurgence. Following the highly anticipated redesign of Volvo’s flagship XC90 SUV, WE will underpin the automaker’s plans to refresh its lineup in the coming years.
Recognized for its human-centric approach to innovation in design, safety, sustainable manufacturing and technology, Volvo also has a long-term vision in the connected car space, with its Sensus Connect platform poised to push the boundaries of driver and vehicle interaction with cloud-enabled services. Volvo Cars selected WE due to the agency’s deep understanding of the brand, luxury lifestyle pedigree and roots in innovative technology.
“We’re extremely happy to have Waggener Edstrom on board as our partner for this critical and exciting time in Volvo’s history. Their level of expertise in the tech, auto and luxury spaces is unparalleled, making them a natural fit for Volvo as we blaze new trails for design, sustainability, safety and driver experience,” said Dean Shaw, vice president of Corporate Communications for Volvo Cars.
WE has released an independent research study that evaluates the public policy implications as cars become more connected. WE surveyed federal, state and local elected officials for their opinions and priorities on the transformation happening in transportation. WE has also hosted Connected Car events in San Francisco and Los Angeles, bringing together thought leaders representing the automotive, technology and consumer electronics industries.
“Everyone I talk to has a beloved Volvo story; it is an incredibly powerful brand with exciting plans for the future,” said Jenny Moede, WE president of North America. “We have shared roots in technology and innovation with Volvo, so we look forward to helping craft and tell its new innovation story during a time of huge transformation within the automotive industry.”
The account will be managed by WE’s New York-based Lifestyle team, led by WE Senior Vice President Julie Levinthal and supported by WE’s Connected Car Team, which interfaces with OEMs, suppliers and tech companies in the automotive space. WE will integrate closely with other agencies, in working to develop a holistic approach to brand expression and storytelling. The team brings years of consumer and lifestyle experience, successfully reintroducing consumer and luxury brands to new audiences with brands such as Jägermeister and KEF America. WE is on the ground with Volvo Cars this week at the North American International Auto Show (Detroit Auto Show).
