HONG KONG — Dec. 13, 2012 — Integrated communications agency Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (WE) announced today that Senior Vice President Matthew Lackie will lead the agency’s efforts in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, replacing Executive Vice President David Ko.
Formerly the deputy lead of APAC, Matthew has steadily increased his responsibilities under David’s guidance, quadrupling the size of WE’s Singapore business, establishing and then expanding its presence in India (including offices in Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai), nurturing and growing regional staff, managing key regional and global clients, and strengthening the agency’s digital capabilities.
After seven years building and leading WE’s APAC business, David plans to take a sabbatical, beginning 9 Feb 2013, to travel. Under his direction, WE grew from three to 10 offices in APAC, including equity investments with Buchan in Australia and Shout Waggener Edstrom in Korea. He expanded the team to more than 125 employees with expertise in consumer, technology, healthcare, corporate and digital communications, to name a few.
“One of the perks of my job is developing leadership talent and watching it grow and prosper,” David said. “I leave my current role and the WE Asia Pacific board in the capable hands of Matthew Lackie, a consummate professional who has grown his share of leaders. Matt has been my strong right-hand man in APAC for the past few years, and, under his guidance, I expect to see our momentum in APAC continue unabated. I am proud to call Matt a friend and partner, and I have no doubt he will elevate WE APAC to a higher level of excellence.”
“David has been the cornerstone of our APAC operations and has done an incredible job growing Waggener Edstrom’s business in this region,” said Corey Kalbfleisch, WE chief financial officer. “His mark continues through the team of strong leaders that he’s built over the past few years as they continue to share his focus on client servicing, creative thinking and innovative storytelling. He has more than earned a break to travel and see the world.”
