Overview

The lines between capitalism and activism are blurring today as our collective attention turns to green (the environment) and blue (water quality and conservation) topics. Organizations must collaborate across societal, cultural, environmental and governmental lines to set goals and make progress on crucial environmental and social issues.

The Waggener Edstrom Worldwide Environment Practice provides strategic business and communications counsel for companies and organizations with innovative business strategies, technologies, systems, products and services that have the potential to measurably improve or mitigate human impact on the environment. Whether they are focused on climate change, toxics reduction, water conservation or resource efficiency, our clients are addressing issues of global concern - while also driving business advantage.

Disciplines

The size, scope and impact of these programs and products vary, but companies of any size and makeup can address real environmental problems. We partner with companies at all points along the business development and sustainability spectrum, whether they make consumer products or industrial solutions. We help our clients assess their position in the commercial and perceptual marketplace, and use this information to create and implement communications campaigns that build awareness and understanding of their work. In some cases this means changing perceptions, while in others it means motivating key audiences to act from a policy, purchasing or behavioral standpoint.

WE Environment works with the following organizations:

  • Pure-play companies with an environmental mission that is central to their business model, whatever their industry sector
  • Environmentally focused business units or initiatives within large multinational companies across all industry sectors
  • Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and trade or advocacy groups associated with systemic environmental issues
The WE Environment Practice focuses on organizations addressing these issues:

  • Renewable energy: Reducing society's use of fossil fuels through renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower and biofuels
  • Resource efficiency: Innovation and technology designed to maximize efficiency across a range of resources including materials, water, energy and air quality
  • Green chemistry: Innovations that reduce, eliminate or replace toxic chemicals within consumer and industrial products and processes that impact our environment and personal health
